My tattoo studio client had a no frills, single-page website, which already gave them a leg up on many of their competitors, but wanted something more representative of their art gallery style. To improve their digital prescence, establish local expertise, and create a pipeline for generating leads, it became clear that a full expansion and redesign would be necessary. The guiding question was:

How can I transform a single-page, basic tattoo studio website into a beautiful, mobile-responsive experience that provides their clients with detailed information and methods of contact - all while laying a strong SEO foundation with strategic keyword targeting to beat out local competition?
To begin, I launched into extensive competitor research, both in the local tattoo scene and industry standards on a broader scale. This helped me narrow down vital pages to build and information potential clients expect to see. Additionally, I used the competitor research to understand what keywords to target for our SEO foundation. By doing this alongside the UX design process, it created a holistic solution that ensures we have more clients coming in while providing them an excellent on-page experience.
Once the dust settled from the redesign and SEO fundamentals process, the client was thrilled with the result and saw a significant increase in their inbound contact forms. The winning combination of deliberate UX design with a strong SEO foundation creates a truly winning environment for both the client and the end users.

From my initial discussion with the owner, he expressed a desire to improve his website while taking marketing concerns off his plate. From there, I used competitor research and industry standards to identify key components of a good tattoo studio website. With a better understanding of the local and national landscape, I crafted the information architecture of our redesign. This process (rough notes shown in the first image below) started with me identifying the pages and topics to cover on-site, then organizing them based on priority to users. From there, I set to work whipping up rough wireframes to provide a blueprint for the redesign itself.

As this structure came together, I built out a comprehensive SEO keyword targeting strategy. All targeting was done with the goal of winning local keywords first, then expanding statewide. We used location modifiers (i.e. "Winston-Salem tattoos" instead of "tattoos") to capture results through the terms themselves, while reinforcing our local presence on search engines. With our SEO strategy primed for implementation, I shifted to building pages within the visual editor, Wix. A few key features of this redesign were:
The results speak for themselves, with the end product being a complete transformation and expansion of on-site offerings. The new homepage showcases their beautiful studio feel, while enabling users' search for information. The goal was a simple, yet effective, elegance and creating a feel of quality throughout. Additionally, I ensured all elements used were responsive in nature to create a positive user experience regardless of their platform.
